Women's Rights in Islam

1,400 years ago Islam gave women rights that many societies only recognised recently:

  • The right to own property and earn a living — her wealth is hers alone.
  • The right to consent to marriage — no woman may be married without her agreement.
  • The right to seek knowledge — the Prophet ﷺ said: "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim."
  • The right to inherit — a share explicitly protected by the Qur'an.
  • The right to be treated with kindness — "The best of you are those best to their women."

Hijab, modesty, and roles within family are choices rooted in worship and dignity — not oppression.
