The Five Pillars of Islam

The five acts of worship that shape a Muslim's life.

The Five Pillars of Islam

  1. Shahada — bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger.
  2. Salah — five daily prayers, connecting the heart to God throughout the day.
  3. Zakat — giving 2.5% of yearly savings to the poor and needy.
  4. Sawm — fasting the month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset.
  5. Hajj — pilgrimage to Makkah once in a lifetime for those who are able.

Each pillar is a form of worship and a way of purifying the soul, the wealth, and the community.
